Supporting Guide Dogs UK

1st Dec

We are always keen to support and fundraise for charities, and this year has been no exception. 2017 has seen us work closely with Guide Dogs UK, a great charity match for us with aiding vision as our common theme. The year began with us sponsoring a Guide Dog Puppy named Irvine who we receive regular pup-dates from. To finish 2017 with a bang we raised £400 from our in-house International Eyewear Great British Bake Off, which we have donated to the wonderful Guide Dogs UK charity.

In the UK today, almost two million people are living with sight loss and of those, around 180,000 rarely leave their homes alone and many suffer from depression and struggle with feelings of isolation. Guide Dogs aim is to provide people with sight loss with the support they need to be able to move around safely and confidently, to get out of their homes and be able to live life the way they choose. The charity is best known for achieving this through their world-famous guide dogs, but their work now encompasses so much more.

It was all waggy tails and big smiles in the office this week as International Eyewear welcomed a visit from the Guide Dogs UK Team. Joining us was Dan the Community Fundraising Business Development Manager from the Shrewsbury Guide Dogs Mobility Team, accompanied by Christine Wheeler one of the dedicated volunteer puppy walkers and not forgetting the star of the day, furry four-legged friend Val the Guide Dog Puppy.

Dan Myatt from Guide Dogs commented “A massive festive thank you to the gang International Eyewear who have held a bake off event at their office and raised £400 for Shrewsbury Guide dogs Mobility Team. Volunteer Christine Wheeler popped along with Guide Dog Puppy Val a black Labrador Golden Retriever Cross aged 5 months to say thank you for all their hard and yummy work. We want to echo the sentiments of Val and Christine, thank you for the hard work and helping to change someone’s life.”
